COMIC/Illustrated story
This assignment's main OBJECTIVE is to showcase your PEN TOOL rendering skills -
including the creation of smooth curves and accurate contours.
Use the characters you created to create several different types of comic strips. I would like you to create BOTH:
  • ONE CELL COMIC 
  • THREE (or more) CELL COMIC
Create an interesting STORY or SITUATION for your characters for each comic.  It can be serious or funny just keep it school appropriate!  
No violence please!!!
Create a NEW FILE
FILE > New (you can just use the default size given in Illustrator and adjust the size later)

In the video, you see that the character file is already open in Illustrator so each character can be easily copied and added to the COMIC file

​ART BOARDS
  • Use your ARTBOARD TOOL to create your two different comics.
  • Remember, you can always adjust the size of your artboard using your ARTBOARD TOOL
  • You can use the SHAPE TOOL or PEN TOOL to make your individual cells
CHARACTERS & ENVIRONMENT
  • You can copy and paste your CHARACTERS into your new COMIC file
  • DESIGN/DRAW your backgrounds using the PEN TOOL - You can use REFERENCE IMAGES or create them from scratch, just make sure that your characters look like they belong in the environment
ADJUST THE CHARACTERS
You can manipulate your characters in several ways
You may want to use the ESSENTIALS CLASSIC WORKSPACE so you have access to more TOOLS
  • SELECTION TOOL
  • DIRECT SELECT TOOL
  • ROTATE TOOL
  • REFELECT TOOL
  • SCALE TOOL
  • SHEER TOOL
  • RESHAPE TOOL
You also may need to RE-DRAW​ your characters too...or re-draw PARTS of your character
Your goal is to create 2 different COMIC STRIPS using the CHARACTERS your designed in ONE FILE . 
  • Create a ONE CELL comic using one or more of your characters
  • Create a THREE CELL or more comic using one or more of your characters
  • ​Use the LAYERS PANEL effectively to keep your design logical and neat.
  • Choose appropriate ​STROKE WEIGHTS
  • Export as a JPEG  and turn-in properly
  • FILENAME -  ​
           COMIC_lastname
Grading will be based on:
  • STROKES - Your use of the PEN TOOL or SHAPE TOOLS is done smoothly and with skill.
  • SHAPES & SHAPE TOOLS - Making clean, logical shapes
  • IMAGE/COLOR ADJUSTMENTS - Making each character look like they all fit together
  • AESTHETICS (a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty)
  •                   - DO YOUR CHARACTERS LOOK LIKE THEY GO TOGETHER?
                      - ARE THEY RENDERED (DRAWN) IN 3-D?
                      - ARE THEY INTERESTING???
  • ELEMENTS of DESIGN - Line, Texture, Color, Shape/Form, Value & Space
  • PRINCIPLES of DESIGN - Repetition, Balance, Emphasis, Contrast & Unity
  • STORY - Are you telling an interesting and clever story with your characters?
  •                   - NO VIOLENCE PLEASE!  SCHOOL APPROPRIATE!
  • LAYERS are organized and labeled
  • FILE NAME, TYPE (JPEG) correct
